Damn...we are really out here.

I worked both Friday and Saturday nights, but had some fantastic Bob Evans breakfast yesterday with a close friend.

Today, the aforementioned friend, along with another friend, and I spent the whole day eating food, going to the nail salon (Gotta look fresh), and just having a great time overall.

I’ve driven the Volvo 1,900 miles in 32 days, which is a lot for a sixteen year old, but my commute to school is 13 miles each way and my work is right next to the school, so I tend to drive a lot.

I will be doing a full review of the Volvo when I am suddenly un-busy over break, and I think y’all will enjoy it.

Just some quick notes about the car:

1. Most comfortable seats in the world but they need to be restored ASAP. I haven’t taken any interior pics because I do not like how the seat looks.

2. Turbo lag. There’s lots. There’s nothing until about 4,000 RPM, but when the turbo decides to wake up it gives me a nice gift of SPEED. Also the turbo spool is an intoxicating noise. This is not a slow car.

3. The radio is fantastic. The cassette player is next level awesome.

4. Averages 18.6 MPG and the TrailBlazer averaged seventeen, so not much improvement. Plus I put premium in it, so it’s only costing me much more money. Casual...

5. ???

6. It’s green.

I need to sleep, but how was all of your weekends?

Excellent. I moved back to Tejas from the evergreen state and I’m starting school in January. Can’t wait for mah edu bennies to kick in!!!

Also I put over 3k miles on a 21 year old car in 8 days. Beat that!

Full post of trip and possibly car review coming soon.

As a fellow 17 year old Volvo owner I can confirm the V70 T5 is 10x faster than my V50 2.4i but also handles like a frickin yacht (but then again you’re coming from a ‘Blazer). My Vo’ feels like a frickin go-cart after I’ve wrestled that big beast into a parking spot, going back and forth a few times because garbage turning radius. Anyways, I’ve been getting 15 mpg in the V50 mostly because my commute is cold-start, drive a mile-and-a-half to school, shut it down, rinse and repeat. Also, how does yours have a cassette? My dad’s is an ‘01 and it doesn’t...

I think the T5 handles quite well as there is no body roll at all, but I do agree that the turning radius is trash. The TrailBlazer’s was phenomenal. I’m not sure why my car has a cassette player, maybe because it’s a higher trim? Not sure...

Where in Washington? Much of my family lives out there.

Hard to say since I thought we had the same trim, ‘01 T5, but I could be mistaken. Also, for whatever reason that era V70 seems to be all over the place when it comes to equipment, though. I’ve seen cars with a push-out cupholder, without the cup holder and just a cubby, with a car phone, and now with and without cassette so I guess they just enjoyed playing mix-n-match over in Ghent (or maybe it’s the Torslanda vs Ghent cars? who knows...)

Mine is a Ghent car that has the cup holder. The only feature it doesn’t have is heated seats, which makes sense as it was originally purchased in Florida so the first owner did not spring for the climate package. Mine is a T5, I just got the V50 2.4i and V70 confused.

Odd, ours is a T5 with heated seats and cupholder but no cassette. No idea place of manufacture, I’ll check when I get home.

Fort Lewis. A little South of Tacoma. I don’t have any family or friends, who aren’t military, who are there.

Nice nice. I’ve spent lots of time there. My father lived in Olympia and now lives on Bainbridge Island, my sister lives in Kent, both aunts live in Everett, and my grandmother lives in Yakima (I feel bad for her). I love love love WA.

Nice nice. Does yours have the same wheels as mine? I also notice that the Volvo badge has changed locations. It looks good up there.

Yep, the 17"(?) Amaltheas. No idea why the badge migrates. P2 V70 seem to just be born with a random selection of features and details; maybe they were part of Volvo’s “Have it Your Way” campaign where customers could specifically choose certain amenities.

The tune is insanely good. I know a guy with a manual S60 T5 with that tune, and he chirps third.

My dad had a manual S60 T5 back in 2003. I remember small bits of it, but what I do remember was fantastic and that’s why I bought the V70, even though it’s an auto. And that bump to almost 300 HP will be, uh, plenty.

And you only lose about 1 MPG when you’re driving normally. Although who can drive normally when your 0-60 drops by a full second and you’re running 18 PSI.

Is his car running properly after the tune? 18 PSI sounds like a lot. Then again, the CLA45 AMG is running at close to a million PSI and it isn’t broken.

He’s had the tune on for the past year and a half, and reliability hasn’t been impacted. He’s experiencing faster tire and brake wear, but that’s more of a driving style thing. Otherwise, just general maintenance.

I’ll be considering it in the summer, for sure. Just have to pay off a speeding ticket first.

How did you get nicked for speeding in a stock green Volvo V70, whereas I haven’t even been pulled in my ridiculous Crown Victoria?

Actually, it’s worse than that. I was picked up in my mother’s brown 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, after 9:00 PM.

That may not sound like a problem but in NC new drivers cannot drive passed 9:00 PM for the first six months of holding his or her license. Thankfully, the cop was cool and let the second part go.

Good god, were you doing 90 in a 50 zone or something? How else would you get pulled in a brown Equinox?

60 in a 45, at 11:30 PM so nobody else was out and that makes me a sitting duck for police intervention into my evening, I suppose.

That’s why most people do that (or greater) at 3:30 AM. Around here, last call was up an hour and a half ago at the latest open club in the city, so drunks aren’t really out there. 5-0 just wants to sleep, and it’s dark enough that getting a positive ID on something semi-generic would be hard. Not that I condone excessive speed or reckless behavior, of course.
